Refund Policy
Effective date: 08/01/2026 · Version 1.1 · Updated 10 August 2026
The short version
The monthly plan comes with a free 3-day trial, so you can look before you pay. If you buy and something is wrong, write to us. If your country gives you a cooling-off right, you have it, and we are not going to argue about it.
1. Who takes your money
A third-party payment provider (to be determined) will process every purchase. That provider will run the checkout, take the payment, apply any tax, and issue your receipt. We will update this policy with the provider's name and role once that is set.
That means two things.
Once a payment provider is in place, that provider's own refund terms will also apply to your purchase, alongside this one, and we will set them out here then. For a renewing plan, the transaction date is the date of that renewal, not the date you first signed up.
Your statutory rights beat any policy. Where local consumer protection law grants you withdrawal rights, those rights apply and override both the payment provider's policy and ours. Writing a stricter policy than the law would be pointless, so we have not tried.
2. The free trial exists so you do not have to guess
The trial runs 3 days, does not ask for a card, and gives you the platform.
It is available on the monthly plan only. It is not offered on the 3-month or yearly plans.
It does not convert on its own. When it ends, access stops unless you pick a plan. Nothing is charged unless you decide to be charged. If you take the trial and it is not for you, do nothing and no money moves.
3. Cooling-off and withdrawal rights
If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA, or the United Kingdom, you have a 14-day right to withdraw from the contract, starting the day it is concluded.
- If you have not started using the platform, ask within 14 days and you get a full refund. No reason needed.
- If you have started using it, you can still withdraw within the 14 days. We may keep a proportionate amount for the period you actually had access, and refund the rest.
If you are elsewhere and your local law gives you a cooling-off or right-of-regret period, that right applies too. Brazil's Consumer Defense Code, for example, gives 7 days on a distance purchase. Tell us where you bought from and we will apply what your law gives you.
We are stating this plainly rather than burying it. Some sellers of digital products tell you that clicking into the content cancels your withdrawal right. The position is more complicated than that for a subscription service, so we are not going to make that argument against you.
4. When we will back a refund, beyond your statutory rights
We will support a refund request when:
- The platform did not work and we could not fix it in reasonable time
- You were charged twice, or charged after canceling
- You never got access to what you paid for
- We closed your account for a reason that was not your fault. We refund the unused part of your term.
We generally will not refund because you finished with the material sooner than expected, or because your plans changed after you had studied. The 3-month term is priced as the study window for exactly that reason.
Every request gets a human answer, not a form. If your situation is not on this list and you think it is fair, write and say why.
5. Canceling is not the same as a refund
Monthly plan. Cancel any time before it next renews, from your account or by emailing us. Canceling stops the next renewal. It does not shorten the month you already paid for, and it does not by itself refund anything. You keep access until the paid period ends.
3-month and yearly plans. One charge, one term, no renewal. There is nothing to cancel. Access ends when the term does.
If you want a refund as well as a cancellation, say so.
6. How to ask
Write to chris@theportugalcivicsissue.com with the email address you bought under and the date of the charge. You do not need to give a reason, though it helps us fix whatever went wrong.
Once a payment provider is in place, you may also be able to raise it with them directly, since they will hold the transaction.
We reply within 3 business days. Where a refund is due, it is issued to the original payment method, and how fast it lands depends on your bank.
7. If you have a problem, tell us first
We would rather sort a billing problem out directly than have it go through a bank dispute. It is faster for you and it costs us less. Write to us and we will look at it.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. Any change applies to purchases made after it takes effect, never retroactively to one you have already made. Material changes are notified the same way as changes to our Terms: by email to account holders, at least 30 days ahead.
The version number and effective date at the top tell you which version you are reading.
